A dude who likes food

Hello everyone! Thanks for stopping by to check out my blog! I’m on a journey to eat my way around the world and love having you along for the ride. My name is Adam Vosding and I was born in London, Ontario, Canada and moved to Florida in 1990 where I have lived for most of my life. Both sides of my family are from The Netherlands and I love learning about my Dutch roots!

Every job I’ve ever had has been in the food industry. I have worked for two grocery chains including a 22 year career with Publix Super Markets and a brief stint with the hip grocery chain called Lucky’s Market. I have also worked as a server in several different restaurants and I’m a firm believer that everyone should have a restaurant job at least once in their life!

During my time as a student at the University of Florida I went on a life changing trip to Singapore and Malaysia. I had been on a couple cruises as a child, but this was my first time traveling overseas. I was blown away. What an experience to see how other people live. I vividly recall going to a bustling night market on the island of Penang that was sensory overload and I loved it. I got the itch. I wanted to see more of our world. I have since traveled to over 25 countries including Japan, China, and Russia and I have been to 45 states and five Canadian provinces. I have awesome memories from my travels, but experiencing the food always stood out as the best part. I love seeing what locals eat. How they eat. When they eat. Who they eat with. Each country is different but we all share an appreciation for food whether it’s having a big meal with friends and family or a quick bite from a local street vendor.

Once upon a time I was a very picky eater. Traveling has allowed me the opportunity to expand my taste buds and try things I wouldn’t have dared to try in my younger years. My passion for food has followed me into the kitchen where I love to cook. A kitchen is my playground. My favorite souvenir to pick while traveling is always a local cookbook.

My life became more complete in 2015. After getting lunch at a Tampa bbq joint (shout out to Holy Hog BBQ) on an summer afternoon in 2015, I decided to swing by the Humane Society of Tampa Bay to “just go look” at some dogs. I walked inside and circled around looking at all the different dogs they had and kept being drawn back to this little labrador mix who was sound asleep on her little bed. She was so gosh darn cute. I knew I couldn’t leave without her and I was very excited to bring her home that day. There is more about the day I adopted her on my About Holland page. I ended up with the perfect dog and there is no doubt she has made me a better person. I’m so lucky to have her by my side on this crazy little journey of mine!

And one more thing about me: I love sports! Especially hockey and college football. I’ll be visiting as many sporting events as possible on my journey and it’s a bonus if I can see my beloved Tampa Bay LightningFlorida GatorsToronto Blue Jays, or Tampa Bay Rays play!
